Hello and welcome to my website
My name is Emma Lindsay and I am an artist, designer and maker with a BA honours degree in architectural glass. I knew I wanted to be an artist from a very young age, no alternative career path has ever really crossed my mind. It wasn't until my first year of art college however that I discovered the medium of glass and fell in love with it. I had of course seen and admired many stained glass windows before but never realised until this point that glass held such enormous potential for contemporary artists. I have been working with glass for over ten years now and still find it a captivating medium to work in.
I grew up in a small rural village in central Scotland and as a result of this nature has become a major inspiration in my work. I see nature as an inherently beautiful and timeless subject matter that everyone can relate to and which transcends language and cultural differences. I am always striving to create a sense of energy and movement in my work using colours, textures and spontaneous mark-making as I believe the feeling you get from a work of art is just as important as the content of it.
Glass is a very beautiful material to work with but can also be quite challenging. The raw materials are often costly, time consuming to work with and frequently unpredictable and uncooperative. This just makes me all the more determined to conquer it because when everything goes to plan it has a wow factor which is in my opinion beyond compare. I have no doubt I will be working with glass (and attempting to conquer it) for many years to come.
